Holy cow, it’s August already? Believe it or not, summer will be winding down, the days will start getting shorter, and if you really want to compress time and space… Christmas is only four months away! But let’s not get ahead of ourselves - - there’s still time to enjoy some summer fun and sun! Speaking of summer, National Watermelon Day is August 3rd. If you’re in the mood to try something different, consider a watermelon beverage. Check out these dozen different watermelon drink ideas, including both kid-friendly and adult (with alcohol) recipes. Yum! August also includes these lesser-known holidays: National Tell a Joke Day (Aug. 16) and More Herbs, Less Salt Day (Aug. 29). While “More Herbs, Less Salt Day” may sound silly, it’s actually a great time to evaluate how much sodium you’re putting into your body. Salt isn’t necessarily bad for you, but as with anything, too much of it can have negative consequences like bloating/water retention, hypertension and heart disease. Using more herbs instead of salt can help you combat blandness while also being healthier. Another great healthy activity is laughter. Now’s the time to recall one of your favorite jokes, and then be sure to tell it to a few of your favorite people on National Tell a Joke Day, August 16th. Sharing a smile is one of the best gifts you can give someone. To get you started, here’s a joke that combines both holidays: “What did the parsley farmer say when he got sued?”… “Are you going to garnish my wages?” (We can hear you groaning all the way over here… haha!) If you try a watermelon drink recipe that you think is particularly delicious, please let us know! And, as always, if you ever have any questions about your finances, don’t hesitate to give us a call -- we’re here to help. Enjoy the remainder of your summer! |
