Here are some things you can do right now to keep your online data secure and protect yourself from becoming a victim of cybercrime.
Recognize Email Phishing Scams: Scammers may send emails from companies you use — like social networking sites, banks, or stores — asking you to confirm personal information or click on a link to make a payment. Call the company directly to verify any issue if you receive an email like this.
Avoid Shipping Notification Scams: Shipping delays provide scammers with an opportunity to send fraudulent package notices attempting to get your personal data. Like above, avoid clicking on links on emails you weren’t expecting or from places you haven’t verified.
Keep Software Updated: Critical updates and patches help your devices function better and keep them more secure.
Skip Public Wi-Fi: When outside your secure network, use a VPN or cellular connection to keep your data safe.
Make Your Passwords More Secure: Use multiple, complex passwords to access different online accounts and change them anytime they’ve been compromised.
